Why practices need one
The HIPAA Security Rule requires covered entities to conduct an accurate assessment of the risks to the protected health information they hold, and to keep that assessment current as the practice changes. Adding a new system, changing vendors, or moving offices all change the picture.
Plenty of practices either have never done one, or did one years ago and filed it. Either way, the documentation that would matter most is the documentation that does not exist.
What it costs
Nothing. Practices are routinely quoted large sums for an assessment, and there is no reason for you to pay that to find out where you stand. If the assessment surfaces gaps, we can help you close them, and if you would rather take the findings to someone else, that is fine too.
